Picasso I'm Not: About the Blog

Hmm. This is a place for me to collect... well, it's a record, of sorts... regarding my art journey.

So I guess you'll see some more finished looking pieces, along with practice exercises I've done, and I don't know what else. Maybe some written ramblings on my process, as I figure out how and why this matters to me so much.

I guess it's really more a personal space, ...but then it's on the internet, so you're welcome to poke around as well....

And by the way, the blog's name is part of a quote from Peter Falk, of Columbo fame, in his memoir Just One More Thing: Stories From My Life.

The full quote is:

"I also like to draw. Picasso I'm not. But it's a big part of my life. My idea of heaven is to wake up, have a good breakfast, and spend the rest of the day drawing...."

(Note: You should read the quote with a gravelscratch Peter Falk voice for highest enjoyability factor.)

Yeah. So not a lot of folks realize Mr. Falk was an artist as well as an actor. He was, and I'm a fan on both fronts.

Back in the day, Falk had a personal website where he put up some of his stuff for folks to take a look at. Last I checked it's been taken down by, I don't know, his estate or something.

I don't know if you've heard of the wayback machine--it's a website that archives snapshots of other websites that don't exist anymore (cool huh?)--and I found portions of Falk's site still archived there. I pulled a bunch of his work from there and am putting it here, mostly because it made me sad to think the guy's gone, and I don't want his art to be gone, too.

At any rate, here's his stuff, below. Looks like someone did some digital "sanitizing" of some of Falk's nudes, with blatantly "not drawn at the time" swimsuits added and such. Too bad. Always a bit sad to see realhumanbeauty censored like that. I've added captions to indicate (what I assume were) Falk's titles for each piece....
